One of the top-selling and top-rated digital cameras on Amazon this year has been the Nikon D3100, so if you are looking for a camera for Christmas as a gift then the D3100 would make an excellent choice. The price is around $550 so the decison is yours as to whether you can afford it or not. The camera however is an excellent DSLR and Nikon are excellent camera manufacturers, but if you are looking for something a little cheaper then see further down in this post.

The D3100 is considered to be an entry-level DSLR. That is not a reflection on the quality of the camera or the lenses but on the number of features you get for your money and it also offers you high-definition video.

If you are in the market for your first DSLR then the Nikon D3100 is considered by many to beat the competition hands down.
